First introduced in 2007, Zipp’s tires were initially focused primarily on aerodynamics, which led to some compromises in rolling resistance and handling. With the Tangente line, Zipp clearly went back to the drawing board with renewed attention toward creating balanced, fast-rolling tires with supple shoulder grip for confident cornering. The Tangente Speed Clincher Tire features exceptional traction in dry conditions, an aerodynamic profile, and low rolling resistance. Billed as a race-ready tire best suited for days when the weather is fair and the roads are dry, the Tangente Speed features a high, 220 TPI nylon casing for a supple ride and confident road feel. Zipp also incorporates a proprietary rubber compound for impeccable grip to rail corners and jump on the attack, and the company claims that the tread pattern is designed to optimize aerodynamics. We haven’t verified this claim, but we definitely welcome any feature that promises to help maintain a hard-earned gap when the line is still a ways off and our legs — like our options — are exhausted.
